Overwhelmed by all the other visions surrounding you

Building a vision that helps others is exciting, isn't it - putting all the pieces together, getting it out there, seeing the thoughts once in your mind come to life.

While you're building your vision, so are others. And some may look similar to yours.

You see what they're doing, how they're doing things, their followers, the resources they seem to have, the impact they seem to be making, how much easier things seem for them.

Then comes the questioning, the second guessing, the fear, and the doubt:

Oh, they’re doing this. Maybe I should too!

They seem to be doing it better. Why am I even doing this?

Is what I provide good enough?

Am I good enough?

So, you get restless and frazzled and start tweaking this, changing that, trying to replicate what you see someone else is doing.

But if you’re not careful, you'll lose your vision’s identity or kill your vision altogether.

Navigate the "See"

In a time where interconnectivity is easier than ever, the possibility of running other visions, including those like yours, is inevitable.

You can't turn a blind eye, act like there aren't other visions out there. So, what do you do?

Face what you're feeling inside

Face What You're Feeling

It's natural to feel fear, doubt, anxiety, and insecurity when pursuing something new or seeing others further along. Ignoring these feelings won't eliminate them, and positive affirmations alone aren't enough. Unaddressed fear, doubt, anxiety, and insecurity can weigh you down and hinder your progress. So instead, take time to identify what you're feeling, understand where it's coming from, and then replace it with the truth and a plan for responding when these feelings resurface. When you face these emotions, you diminish their power.

Identifying the root of what you’re feeling may take time; and sharing with someone you trust or licensed professional can help. And as you build, do a heart check every once in a while, so any hiding emotions won’t have a chance to take root.

Limit your exposure

Limit Your Exposure

Yes, stay informed about trends and what’s happening, but not at the expense of your vision.

During the week, I’m rarely on social media; and when I am, I check a few things, read a few posts, or do some research, and then I’m off. And I limit how often I look at similar vision’s socials or websites. Because I know me - I’ll either get distracted, or I’ll get in my head and start editing stuff that’s fine how it is. Limiting my exposure keeps me in the zone and focused.

If you're like me, schedule specific times for social media with a clear purpose.

And avoid deep diving into other visions’ socials or websites, especially when you know you’re not in the best head space.

Besides, you've got better things to do - building your vision.

Glean with caution

Glean with Caution

It's okay to look at other visions and pick up tips and want to do things better. But before you apply anything you see, take it back to the drawing board and ask yourself, "Why did this work for them? Does this fit my vision? Is this right for where my vision is right now?"

Remember my recent tips, The Key to Better Strategy?

Doing this ensures that what you do apply fits you, where you are, and who your vision serves. Not everything will work for everyone.

Don't compare, Celebrate!

Don't Compare, CELEBRATE!!

Celebrate the success of other visions, even those similar to yours. Celebrate and keep it moving.

Now you may have to deal with any initial negative feelings first before you can genuinely do this. That’s okay. But don’t let this opportunity for growth pass you by.

If appropriate, reach out and congratulate them. Who knows? It could end up being a good connection for you. And you never know what your words will mean to them.

And celebrate YOU! Celebrate how far you’ve come with your own vision and you being uniquely you. Because building is no small feat; and there are those that need you just as you are and what you provide in the way only you can provide.

A More Confident You

Face what you’re feeling, limit your exposure, glean with caution, and celebrate you and other visions that help others while focusing on your strengths and the needs you uniquely fulfill, you will navigate the “see” of other visions with ease and without losing sight of your own.

Putting It into Action

Over the next two weeks:

  • Do a heart check.

    • First acknowledge your feelings: Am I feeling doubt, fear, or insecurity? Have I been pushing away such feelings? What is the source? Have I altered my vision due to observing others?

    • Then speak truth and establish your response plan: I know this is what I feel. But what is the truth? If someone I trust heard me feeling like this, what would they say to me? When these feelings arise, how do I choose to respond?

  • Set yourself up right. Before your next networking event, meeting, or get on social media, set your focus and remind yourself of what’s true about you and your vision. And set some limits for social media if needed.

  • Treat yourself to something special. No matter where you are in your vision, you are moving forward and that deserves to be celebrated!

  • Spread some love. Congratulate or encourage another vision that helps others that’s been doing their thing. Helping others can have its hard moments and your kind words may be the pep in their step they needed.
