In my post Prioritizing Your Vision Amidst a Helping Heart, we talked about how busily helping others and their visions makes it difficult to prioritize your own vision that helps others.
There are other things that can get in the way of prioritizing your vision:
All the stuff you got to do in a day
Uncertainty, frustration, and stress due to events around us and in our personal lives
Fear
All of this and more can take away the focus, the energy, the joy, and the determination first felt when the vision came alive in our hearts.
The WHY Matters
It's easier to prioritize our vision when we stay connected to the WHY.
Why does our vision matter?
Why do those it helps matter?
Why did the vision come alive in our hearts? (Where did the vision come from, how did it come to be?)
Why is not bringing it forth not an option? (I know a double negative, but you get me 😀)
The why motivates us.
The why has a way of pushing us forward so we keep taking steps, even in the face of setbacks, even in the face of uncertainty.
They may not be big steps. They don't have to be. Steps are steps.
How We Stay Connected to the WHY

Remember the WHY
Take time to remember the why. Reconnect with your original vision. Visit the place it began, review the initial notes you jotted down when it first came alive in your heart, talk with those who shared your early excitement, or spend time with those who are impacted by your vision.
You may feel that your vision has been on the back burner so long, that you can't remember the why. It's okay. What's lost can be found again.

Write the WHY Down
Write down the why and make it plain. It becomes more real that way, rather than keeping it in your head. Write it on your phone, write it in a notebook, it doesn't matter. But write it down.

Keep the WHY in Front of You
Writing it down isn't enough, you will need to review often, especially when you feel yourself getting a little off track or setbacks arise and easily do so. Put your why somewhere visible, somewhere you look often. For most of us that's our phone so make it your screensaver. Or, make a poster and put it on the wall, the mirror of your bathroom, or wherever you frequently look.
Last Thoughts
Stay connected to the why and watch how much easier it becomes to stay on track with your vision that helps others. Because then it becomes something you not only want to do, but you have to do.
Putting It into Action
Over the next two weeks:
Have a WHY session - Take 30 minutes, an hour and ask yourself these questions:
Why does your vision matter?
Why do those it helps matter?
Why did this vision come alive in your heart?
Why is not bringing it forth not an option??
**Note: Don't rush the process or push yourself to remember. Take your time and let it come. You may even need to break it up into mini sessions especially if it's been a while since you've thought about your why.
Set up reminders to review your why on your phone. Set them up for daily, weekly, or monthly pings —whatever frequency that helps it stay at the front of your mind.
Tell someone you trust your why and ask them to remind you of it every now and then.
