The rare free moment. An empty space in your day.
You know, when you don’t have many appointments scheduled, a meeting gets cancelled or rescheduled, you finish a to-do earlier than you planned, or you have some time before needing to move on to the next to-do.
What normally happens next? We think, "Awesome, I can use this time to get another to-do done." (I include myself in this)
But what if we didn’t fill that empty space with another assignment, meeting, call, or errand for our vision?
What if it was filled instead with something that fills you?

Finding Balance
When I fill my empty spaces with things that fill me, my day feels less like work, work, work. I’m calmer, I’m more present, and I move through my day smoother.
We often hear about having a good work/life balance is important and agree. Well, building a vision that helps others is work. It’s good work, but it's still work. And, even in good work, there needs to be balance.

Where can a good work/life balance begin? It can begin right here.
What to Fill Empty Spaces with Instead
Absolutely Nothing
What?! Yep. Nothing. Your last meeting cancelled? End the day early. Your morning got cleared? Make it a 2-hour lunch, instead of just 1 hour (and one without running any errands).

Rest
Kick back and turn on your favorite music. Sit in the quiet and just breathe. Take a walk and let the sun hit your face. Take a nap.

Fun
Treat yourself to that fun thing you've been putting off. Go see the movie you've been wanting to see. Go try the new restaurant around the corner.

Hobbies
Be it reading, drawing, watching your favorite tv show or movie, cooking, or trying something new.

Connections
Not with clients or supporters. With your friends and family. Odds are that you haven't spent as much time as you’ve desired with those you love as you’ve been building your vision so fill the space with them.

Final Thoughts
Fill your empty spaces with what fills you and you’ll come back with your world outside of your vision more intact, more refreshed, and ready to get back to work.
Putting It into Action
Set your intention for your empty spaces. Over the next two weeks, when you have an empty space, with what space filler(s) mentioned above will you fill your time?
Plan for the empty spaces - keep a blanket in your office or car, make a YouTube playlist with your favorite videos, carry a book you've always wanted to read and never got around to it in your bag.
Lastly, create empty spaces on purpose. Don’t fill up your calendar on purpose. Create space in your day and your week for things that fill you.
